Grzegorz Kowalski’s archive is an extensive, multi-layered collection comprising several thousand objects, deposited with the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw by the artist’s heirs. It encompasses not only documentation of his artistic practice, but a full spectrum of materials that together form an archive of creative life: artworks and their successive versions, photographic negatives and prints, working notebooks, records of creative processes, correspondence, catalogues and albums, as well as traces of many years of teaching activity – including diploma projects by former students. An important part of the collection is also made up of personal materials: private photographs, letters, notes, and everyday documents that allow the biographical context of artistic work to be reconstructed and reveal the relational dimension of his practice. This is therefore not a collection of works in a traditional, collector’s sense, but a dense tissue of processes, relationships, and practices in which artistic creation intertwines with daily life, reflection, and shared experience.
